The Marquis de Sade was a French nobleman and writer who is best known for his erotic novels and works of philosophy. He was a proponent of extreme libertinism, which advocated for sexual freedom and pleasure without limits. His writing was often controversial and he spent much of his life in exile due to his scandalous behavior. Although he was reviled by many during his lifetime, he is now considered a forefather of modern pornography and sexual liberation. His works include novels, short stories, plays, dialogues, and political tracts. Some of these were published under his own name during his lifetime, but most appeared anonymously or posthumously.
