Eugene Bersier

Eugene Bersier was a Swiss theologian and Bible scholar who was born in 1867. He studied at the University of Bern and the University of Zurich, where he earned his doctorate in 1895. Bersier was a professor at the University of Bern from 1896 to 1898, and then at the University of Lausanne from 1898 to 1901. From 1901 to 1903, he was a pastor in Geneva. In the early 1700s, they raised a resistance against the persecutions which followed Louis XIV's Revocation of the Edict of Nantes, making Protestantism illegal. The Camisards operated throughout the mainly Protestant Cévennes and Vaunage regions including parts of the Camargue around Aigues Mortes.
