L. Frank Baum

Lyman Frank Baum, an American author of children's books, best known for writing The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, which became an instant hit and is now considered one of the most memorable children’s classics of all time. He wrote thirteen novel sequels, nine other fantasy novels, and a host of other works predicting many future inventions such as television, laptop computers (The Master Key), wireless telephones (Tik-Tok of Oz), empowerment of women (Mary Louise in the Country), and the ubiquity of advertising on clothing (Aunt Jane's Nieces at Work). Born and raised in Chittenango, New York, Baum moved west after an unsuccessful stint as a theater producer and playwright.
