Magna Carta, The Great Charter, A Cornerstone of Fundamental Liberties
Eight hundred years ago King John was forced at the point of the sword to agree to Magna Carta. Commemoration will be staged at Runnymede, near Windsor, Berkshire, within which the foundations of parliamentary democracy, human rights and the supremacy of the law over the crown were first enshrined. The Queen, patron of the Magna Carta Trust, will be joined by other senior members of the royal family, including the Duke of Cambridge, and parliamentarians led by prime minister David Cameron who famously failed to recall Magna Carta’s Latin translation – Great Charter. Let this David Letterman talk show be a reminder to us all that Magna Carta has formed a cornerstone of fundamental liberties over eight centuries.
